What to Expect

Initial assessment covers injury history, current symptoms, movement screening, and the athletic context you are recovering from or training for.

Treatment combines manual therapy, exercise rehabilitation, and progressive loading. Each phase has clear criteria before progressing to the next.

Return-to-play is the target, not just symptom resolution. We coordinate with your strength coach and (where relevant) your sport psychology work with Sly so the comeback is coherent.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is athletic therapy?
Athletic therapy is sports-specific rehabilitation delivered by a Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT-C). It covers injury assessment, manual therapy, exercise rehabilitation, return-to-play programming, and injury prevention for athletes. CAT-C is a regulated profession in Ontario.
How is athletic therapy different from physiotherapy?
Athletic therapy and physiotherapy are different regulated professions. Devyn is a Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT-C), not a physiotherapist. CAT-C training emphasizes sport-specific demands, on-field injury management, and return-to-play programming. We refer to physiotherapy where it is the right fit.
Is athletic therapy covered by insurance?
Yes, most extended health benefit plans in Canada cover athletic therapy. We help you confirm your specific coverage at intake. Bring your insurance details to your first session.
What injuries do you treat?
Sport-related injuries across the musculoskeletal system. Acute injuries like sprains, strains, and post-surgical recovery. Chronic conditions like tendinopathy and overuse injuries. Movement-based pain. If it is sport-related and rehab-appropriate, Devyn can assess it.
Who is Devyn Walters?
Devyn Walters is a Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT-C) and leads athletic therapy at Ternion. She holds the credential from the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association. Devyn works in the same facility as the rest of the Ternion team, which is how rehab and training stay coordinated.
How long does sports injury rehabilitation typically take?
Depends on the injury, severity, and the athletic demands you are returning to. Acute soft-tissue injuries often resolve in weeks. Post-surgical timelines run months. Devyn provides honest timelines at the assessment, not optimistic estimates.
